Piano Recital - December 14, 2008

One of the other things that I do besides Funky Faith is that I teach piano to children and adults.
Tonight was my children's piano recital and my students amazed me! Many of them had never met each other before and they all played wonderfully in front of a room full of strangers. Anyone who has ever been on a stage before knows that it takes something like Funky Faith to do that!
Everybody was excited to be in the recital and couldn't wait for their turn to play. They all listened intently to each other's performances and responded graciously.
These children are learning more than just how to play the piano. They are learning WHY to play the piano - and that is to give God glory! Our scripture is Psalm 144 which says, "Praise the Lord who is my rock. He trains my hands for war and gives my fingers skill for battle". All the children know it and can say it on demand- as they did tonight at the recital.
I really appreciate all the things that my students teach me and am so blessed to have them and their parents in my life!

Gammon Jazz Cafe - October 7, 2008

Last night, Oct 6th was the Jazz Cafe for the Gammon School of Theology at the Interdenominational Theological Center in Atlanta. What a night it was! A cool jazzy feel filled the room as the band posse from Ben Hill UMC played.

This was the first time I did Funky Faith with my beautiful babies on stage. Tre' played a blind person receiving sight and Jordan played the "little girl" who would get up and "save us from a repeat of Juneteenth". They are definitely something else!

And everybody was amazed when Damian turned water into wine during "The Best Man"! If you haven't seen him do this, you absolutely have to be at the next Funky Faith Event!

Closing the evening out was a powerful sistah- Tevia Wiggins, "The Evangelist".
Definitely the right name for her. She blessed the mic hard and heavy saying to us, "You've got questions and God's got answers"
Watch out for "The Evangelist" Funky Faith Squad, we'll be hearing from her again real soon.

I am so grateful to the Gammon fellowship for inviting me and allowing me to be part of such a great event. They were so wonderful to me and my family. Kudos!!!

Thanksgiving - November 21, 2007

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at PhotobucketAs you know, I live by Funky Faith everyday - ridiculous, but true. Why ridiculous? Because having Funky Faith means following God even when you don't understand, even when everything's a mess, even when you just want to forget it all.
But this Thanksgiving, I want to give thanks for Funky Faith. Because of this faith, I have seen God move in powerful ways. Many of you don't know that I had been dealing with an illness for the past 3 months. Doctors could not tell me what was wrong, but I knew I was sick. I lost at least 10 pounds and if you have seen me you know that I definitely could not afford to be LOSING any pounds! I could not eat and was just in a bad way altogether. During this time, I had a lot of Funky Faith engagements. Even though I felt horrible, I was able to press on somehow. So, what did I do? Well, I thought I should review my insurance policies (uh, right after I got some), go over my will (uh, right after I make one), and of course I cried a lot-- God what is going on?
But today I am so thankful I can say that GOD IS A HEALER AND A DELIVERER. Without doctors, God has brought me and continues to bring me to a place of WELLNESS. So, this Thanksgiving I am thankful for Life, Strength, and Health. Thankful for my family, friends, and certainly the FUNKY FAITH SQUAD- that's you.
So, if you've been praying about a certain thing and wondering if God will ever answer, know that he will just when the time is right. In the meantime, go be Thankful for those around you then... Be Still And Know That He Is God!!!!!!

Hallelujah FM and Funky Faith Meet! - July 13, 2007

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
On Saturday 7-7-07 we (Damian and I) were blessed to be in Jackson, MS to attend the Deliverance Crusade on Valley and Barrett Street in there, and it truly is what ministering is all about.
The event was covered by local radio station 95.5FM with On Air Personality Lance Fuller.
People were getting fed spritually and physically clothed and ministered to. Of course, they got a healthy dose of FUNKY FAITH as well.

Family Reunion - July 7, 2007

During the week of the 4th of July I was blessed to go to my family reuion in Mississippi. This was the first in about 16 years! It was wonderful just to be around family.
These are the people who, even though they know way more about you than you care to admit, love you ANYWAY. How awesome is that?
Now that I'm back in my everyday world, I miss them A Lot - I know it's only been about a week, but hey, that's a long time!
So, do me a favor - wherever you are, find a family member nearby or call them on the phone and show 'em some love.

Sweet Auburn Festival - May 14, 2007

Yesterday was a full day of excitement. It began with the best Mother's Day breakfast in the world and then it was off to get makeup and hair done. I want to thank Kadel Clayton for hooking a sista up all the way. Then she topped it off by giving me my "big hair" for the stage. I told her I would be taking that down as soon as I was off the stage. (But I didn't). You've gotta see the pics on the photos page. If you ever need professional makeup, e-mail her at kadelclayton@comcast.net
or you can find her at D'Ambience Hair and Day Spa in Tucker, GA.
Of course I arrived for the makeup appt. a bit late so that meant I was running a bit late afterwards. Rushing down I-20 with about 30 minutes to find parking and get to the stage was something else. Once we got down there with about 20 minutes to spare we found we weren't on the list. So it was stage hunting for us.
After about the 3rd stage we decided there was no need to rush, just find a stage - ANY stage. If you or someone you know tried to come to hear Funky Faith but couldn't find us I do apologize. Our stage had been changed and nobody seemed to know where to tell us to go.
I think the festival organizers had wanted to put Funky Faith on the Gospel Stage, but you KNOW God wasn't having that! Funky Faith has to be out in the mainstream!
We finally ended up on the Harambee Stage (our original location) and all went well.
I want to thank Bianca H., Elizabeth V. and Amoto, and Glenda for coming out in full force. Thanks to Original Funky Faith Squad, Damian, Tre' and Jordan for being so supportive as well.
Without them being there I may have never found the right stage and I certainly know things wouldn't have gone as well as they did.

Poetry and Jazz Nite at Cafe 267 - April 23, 2007

Merry Christmas!!! - December 20, 2006

I just want to share this video with you. It's Mariah Carey's All I Want For Christmas.
With the season becoming more and more about Santa Claus and everything else that has nothing to do with the birth of Jesus, I want to let you know that ALL I Want for Christmas is more of Christ - and of course more Funky Faith!!! What about you?

Share The Love!!! - December 8, 2006

I cannot say how grateful I am for everybody who is supporting Funky Faith - especially you because you are taking the time to visit this site.
That tells me that you have a thirst for knowledge and probably like to share good info that you find with other people who might need it. So, if you're thinking to yourself, "So in so would love to hear about this because they're always planning events and looking for good talent", then you can send them my EPK. It has all the info event planners want to book new talent.

Fan Gone Wild!!! - December 4, 2006

If you think you're excited about my new Funky Faith release, wait till you hear about my friend Y (I won't use her name).
This girl has bought and sold almost 40 CD's in just a couple of weeks. And, she has bought Funky Faith Gear.
Here are some excerpts of e-mails I've received from Y:

After calling a radio station where she didn't know anybody in a city that she no longer lives in, Y wrote-
"Girl, this is so totally exciting!!!!!!!!!!!!"
(By the way, they told her they would play it!)

And another e-mail from Y:

Fantastic!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Girl, I am so happy you want me to go ahead with this, so I have just finished talking with Drew at Vinyl Fever and he said that we can put the CD on consignment at the store... I (or my mom) would just have to bring it in, let them hear it and then we'll go from there. So, i also asked him about featuring you on thier website because they have some local artists featured and he said that they are in the process of redoing the entire website, so I don't know if they'll be having features, or what, but that's cool, I'll just wait and see. So, this is what I'm thinking we can do in the meantime. Can you send me a press kit? my mom is coming this weekend so I will make sure that I print it out for her so that she'll have it when she gets back to Tally.

After viewing my EPK (Electronic Press Kit)-
Hey, I like it!!!! I can't wait to show my mom tomorrow!
chat with ya soon

Now, this is perhaps my favorite-
"Girl, as you can see, I just had to get the funky faith bag, and that cute little junior t-shirt (I got a large in hopes that it will fit :)

Girl, pretty soon I am gonna be funky faith from head to toe!"

So, finally I would like to say to my friend Y-
Thank you so, much Y - You know who you are!!!!!

And look, folks, I haven't even told you about the voicemails yet :)

Angels For Christ - November 6, 2006

Last night I had the awesome opportunity to perform Funky Faith at the first fundraiser for Angels For Christ, a non-profit organization whose mission is to provide basic human necessities, personal counseling, and rehabilitation of all persons in need. The Foundation is the brain-child of Mr. Quincy Powell of River Of Life AME Church where Ferrun Johnson is pastor.
This was the first public performance of Funky Faith since the CD was released last week. If last night is any indication of what's to come for Funky Faith, we are in for a WILD RIDE!
You can find out more about Angels For Christ by emailing Quincy at angels4christ foundation@yahoo.com
